Well, as I type this I was meant to be getting ready for a bucket-list-ticking two week trip to Canada, but well, 2020. In June, we decided that, even if our flights were going ahead, we weren’t sure that we wanted to travel long haul, and so we re-planned our two weeks of annual leave so we could visit two of our favourite parts of the UK: Cornwall and Devon!
We’ve been lucky enough to visit Cornwall and Devon a few times before, and so I had a fair idea of where we wanted to go, but I have to say I really loved putting this itinerary together! So after a few hours of researching, our two week itinerary for Cornwall and Devon was all planned!
Stop 1: Gara Rock, Salcombe
Gara Rock has long been on my list since it re-opened and had its redecoration. We’re staying in a suite with a balcony overlooking the sea which looks stunning! I’m looking forward to throwing open the doors to the fresh (and hopefully warm!) sea air and having a lazy breakfast in our room, too.
I haven’t been to a spa since lockdown started, so I can’t wait for some treatments in the gorgeous spa and I’m so looking forward to hopefully enjoying afternoons by the *stunning* pool… Sorry to anyone who is excited by autumn approaching, but I’d like an Indian summer so I can enjoy this!
And not only is there a beautiful pool, but there’s a private cinema which guests can book, too. Perfect for a rainy afternoon or evening if you ask me! Gara Rock is located near Salcombe, somewhere I’ve visited briefly before, but I’m really looking forward to a few days exploring this beautiful town.
Stop 2 : Watergate Bay
Watergate Bay is the sister hotel to Another Place, where we stayed in the Lake District, so I’m really excited to visit! I think it will be a bit more laid back than Gara Rock, and will hopefully be a wonderful base to explore a little more of the local area – as well as try my hand at surfing! I have to say, I’m a little skeptical that I’ll actually be able to surf at all, but hey, when in Cornwall!
I’ve seen so many gorgeous photos of the hotel, but Rachel from Waking Up Here’s photos in particular have made me so excited! The foodie in me is also so excited to visit Emily Scott’s pop up in the hotel. In fact, the venue used to be home to Jamie Oliver’s Fifteen, where we’ve had some amazing meals before, so I’m looking forward to going back!
Oh, and did I mention it has an incredible pool just like its sister hotel?!
Stop 3: The Scarlet Hotel
We’ve been lucky enough to visit The Scarlet a couple of times, both to stay and just to visit for drinks, and I can’t tell you how excited I am to go back!
If you’ve seen this hotel before, it’s likely been the incredible spa facilities, including the cliff-top hot tubs and outdoor sauna (which is in the photo above). I’ve already booked our hot tub times to (hopefully!) coincide with sunset, so hopefully that should be a fairly magical experience.
We’ve even booked a dinner-inclusive rate so we don’t have to leave! And now that I write this, I realise that The Scarlet also has a pretty incredible pool, so prepare for some serious pool inspiration on Instagram!
Stop 4: The Headland Hotel
For our final stop on our two week itinerary of Cornwall and Devon, we’ll be checking into one of the cottages at The Headland Hotel on Fistral Beach.
We’ll be spending almost a week here, and I’m really looking forward to having our own little cottage for that time, but also to having all the facilities of a hotel on our doorstep too. We’ve stayed here before, but a very long time ago, so I’m looking forward to seeing if the cosy nights in the cottage, listening to the waves lap on the beach are just as we remember them!
The Headland Hotel have also just opened their new Aqua Club, which contains a new swimming pool and wellbeing centre – and it looks *beautiful*!
Unfortunately when we booked our trip, The Pig at Harlyn Bay wasn’t yet accepting bookings. And much as I’m excited to see the new Pig hotel (as they are some of my favourites in the UK), I wasn’t prepared to take a gamble on whether I’d be able to get a room. We’ll definitely pop in for lunch and have a little nosy around – I couldn’t be this close and not pop in!
Writing this post has made me even more excited for our little road trip, to see some old favourites and make some new memories!
